Garry Mac Pherson has been on the UC Santa Barbara Campus for nearly 4 1/2 years, and prior to that served for nearly a decade on the UC San Diego campus as an Associate Vice Chancellor. Garry worked in various capacities in local government in San Diego County for 33 years before joining the University of California in 2009.  Garry is committed to the campus repatriation efforts and has worked with the Repatriation Coordinator to develop a strong team and local tribal relationships.

Hugh Radde was hired in 2024 to lead campus’s repatriation efforts in compliance with the UC Policy on Native American Cultural Affiliation and Repatriation. He is responsible for consulting with lineal descendants, tribes, and Native Hawaiian organizations; identifying and reporting all Native American ancestors and other cultural items; and coordinating the repatriation of ancestors and cultural items. He serves as the point of contact for all NAGPRA inquiries at UCSB.  
Hugh has 20 years of experience in California archaeology, and has assisted in repatriation projects in southern California for the past ten years. In addition to NAGPRA work, Hugh is a Co-Director for the Pimu Catalina Island Archaeology Project. He has taught courses on California Archaeology and volunteers his time to provide training and workshops on the topic of repatriation, cultural resource management, and Indigenous archaeology.

Mike Miller has been on the UC Santa Barbara campus for 21 years. He is a member of the Skokomish Indian Tribe, a federally recognized tribe in Washington State. In 2021, Mike was asked to serve as UC Santa Barbara’s repatriation coordinator and has a passion for working with local tribes to achieve respectful and timely repatriation.

Laurie Pfeiffer joined UC Santa Barbara in 2022 after nearly 25 years working in Cultural Resource Management in Santa Barbara County and other areas of California. Emphasizing responsible site management and preservation alongside local Native monitors in the field, Laurie brings a keen understanding of the concerns and sensitivities associated with creating an efficient and respectful repatriation process.

Britt Holguin

Britt Holguin is a PhD candidate in the Anthropology Department at UCSB. Her research focuses on advancing isotopic databases in the forensic anthropological field in order to improve human identification efforts. Britt has a background in California Channel Islands and Santa Barbara mainland archaeology, and holds an MSc in Forensic Anthropology. She is responsible for reviewing osteological reports, managing digital records, and technical expertise.

Thea Winterich graduated from UC Santa Barbara in June 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology. During her final two years as an undergraduate, she interned and volunteered with UCSB’s NAGPRA Department, contributing to ongoing repatriation and consultation efforts. She now serves as a Museum Scientist Assistant, where she continues to support the university’s commitment to NAGPRA compliance. Thea plans to pursue a master’s degree focused on repatriation, reflecting her strong passion for this important field.
